Carl Jung's cognitive functions, explained
COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS THREAD: So there's this man called Carl Jung. & he discovered that humans came in 16 distinctive types of behaviour.

Each type is composed of 4 cognitive functions. They're stacked in order from top to bottom or left to right.

You'll spend the first 20 or so years using your 1st & 2nd functions. The first one more though. 2nd is there as an auxiliary function.
But by your 30's, you begin to use & develop your 3rd function more for about 10 years. Then finally your 4th function begins to develop.
As this happens, your personality is drawn from more cognitive functions, as opposed to the 2 you were using for your 1st 20 years.
This in turn allows you to become more developed/wiser. You experience life from a different perspective & learn new things.
I think this is why adults go through midlife crisis'. They're not aware the 3rd & 4th cognitive functions are developing.
ANYWAYS. There's 8 cognitive functions; 4 of them are Judging functions (Ti, Te, Fi, Fe) & the other 4 are perceiving functions(Si,Se,Ni,Ne)

You read them backwards. So if I say Ni, I mean Introverted Intuition & when I say Fe that means Extroverted Feelings.
For the record; a cognitive function in someone is much more noticeable in them when it's higher up in their cognitive functions stack.
So for an ESTJ's Cogstack (Cognitive Function Stack) Fi is last so you wouldn't see them in their feelings much at all until later in life.

So the functions; 1) Ti, Introverted Thinking. This function is pure imagination. Folks with it @ the top of their cogstack day dream BAREE

(Ti) ppl are always in their heads. They tend to be wickedly logical & efficient. As in if they can do something a quicker way, they will.
They use their imagination to form frameworks of how everything they encounter works & always want to know why. They spend agesss thinking
This makes them come across as lazy but that's not the case. As well, Ti folks think about things so repeatedly they come of as slow/dopey.
But once they understand something, they understand it from EVERY angle. Then they can explain it even better. Ti folks are very objective.
(Te) - Extroverted Thinking. Folks who operate under this cognitive function think outward. They're serious, orderly & very organised.

They catch onto logic QUICK, which is always preferred by places such as offices & schools. They come across as direct & cold though.
Well developed Te makes a person fully goal oriented. Don't be surprised if you have a manager or executive as a (Te) dominant.
Then there's (Fe). Extroverted Feelings. You ever meet those people who are happy to see you? For no reason? That's them.

(Fe) people are the type that are super caring towards you for no reason. Their mood depends on the environment around them.
If you're not happy, they're not happy either. (Fe) dominant people make excellent carers, nurses & parents.
Next is (Fi) Introverted Feelings, used 1st by (INFP's & ISFP's). I've noticed there's a major daydreaming aspect to this function...

...It's a lot like (Ti) except more time morals & beliefs are constantly analysed & felt on the deepest internal level. (Fi) dominants are..
..Easily the most emotionally sensitive people. For this reason they can almost always sympathise with anyone experiencing any emotion.
Then there's (Si) - introverted sensing. Watch out for this function if you're an (INTP/INFP). It's essentially what causes anxiety for you.
(Si) is a function that records everything you ever come across in life & pops up wherever we think we've seen something similar to it.

You know if you operate with (Si) if you're easily nostalgic.Certain environments trigger flashbacks that feel like you're literally there
Also, (Si) dominants are MASSIVE creatures of habit. Once they have routine they don't like change. They also remember the smallest details.
Give an (Si) dominant an apple to eat. they'll compare the taste to every other apple they've ever had. As opposed to just enjoying it
Next, (Se). Extroverted sensing is alll about experiencing new sights & sensations constantly. Se dominants always want the next motive..

...LOVE trying new things & experience life in real time. Give an Se dominant an apple & they'll enjoy that particular apples unique taste..
Unlike Si dominants who compared their apple against each one they've ever had. Most athletes, dancers & travellers are (Se) dominants.
Then the extroverted intuition function, Ne. I'm so sure this function is one of the main reasons a child has OCD growing up. Let me explain
You ever gone on Google or Wikipedia to find out ONE thing & 2 hours later you're reading up on something completely unrelated? Thats Ne.
It's a stupidly powerful cognitive function & I honestly believe if you don't control it; it manifests in the form of OCD & or ADD.
Any (Ne) dominant you've ever come across ramble from topic to topic when they speak. They can never stay fixated on any one thing.

Wrong pic

Ne dominants are always sidetracked & have close to 0 attention span. Their brains are constantly jumping from one idea to the next.
Slyly, you know when you've come across a person with Ne because they come across as erratic. They have a million & one things on their mind
Fav example of an (Ne) dominant (ENTP).

Lastly, Ni. Lol, this function is weird. Used by weirdos for weirdos. Only God can accurately explain this one my fren

People with Ni easily have the strongest intuition. They always 'just know' something will happen. Ni dominants come across as super focused
& determined; if they have a bad gut feeling for you sorry pal. They'll stay away from you. Most seers & mystics are Ni dominants apparently
I don't know too much on how it works. Just it pulls abstract data from everything it encounters & constantly synthesizes into information
that's ALL 8 cognitive functions. I hope I explained each one clearly cos the next thread about anxiety will reference them alot. Thanks!
